Shiraz Spotlight

A shallow black block fixed straight to the ceiling with two round LED lenses set into its underside, throwing light down rather than filling a room.

There is no glass shade and no lamp to change. Two integrated LED modules sit behind opal lenses in a plain metal block, and the heads angle so the beams can be pointed at a worktop, a picture or a doorway instead of straight down. The whole fitting reads as a piece of architecture rather than a light fitting, which is the point of a surface downlight in a room with no ceiling void to recess into. The finish is a fine textured black that hides fingerprints.

Where it works: a hallway, a landing or a home office over a desk, and anywhere with a solid ceiling that will not take a recessed downlight.

The LED is built in, so when it eventually fails the whole fitting is replaced rather than the lamp. The light reads as cool daylight white, which suits a desk or a hallway more than a bedroom.
