Rostam Wall Light

A tall cylinder of natural alabaster capped in brass at both ends, lighting a wall as a single soft column rather than a point.

Alabaster is translucent rather than transparent, so the stone itself becomes the light source: the warm glow spreads across the whole cylinder and the natural veining shows through it as faint cloud. No two pieces are patterned the same way, which is the argument for stone over opal glass. Brass rings finish the top and bottom and are the only metal on show. Because the column is long and lit from within, the wash it throws is even from top to bottom with no hot spot, which is why this form suits a hallway better than a reading position.

Where it works: down a hallway, in a bedroom either side of a bed, or in a living room alcove where a long vertical line of light is wanted.
