Lahijan Table Lamp

A fluted smoked glass teardrop, sold as a base on its own, so you can pick the shade and keep the cost down.

The glass is a soft smoke grey with a faint mauve cast, pressed into a teardrop shape and ribbed with vertical flutes from the neck to the foot. Smoked glass reads darker and heavier than clear at the same size, which is what makes a compact base hold its own under a full sized shade. The flutes catch the light along each ridge and hide the flex inside the body of the glass. The lamp holder at the top is black rather than brass, which keeps the whole thing cool and quiet.

Where it works: a bedside table, a hallway console, or a reading corner, with a pale shade to lift it or a dark one to keep it moody.

A wide drum shade suits this base well. Smoked glass takes a white shade especially well, because the contrast is what makes the tint read.
