Babol Table Lamp

A small speckled stoneware lamp in a sandy natural glaze, with a coarse woven shade that lets the weave show when it is lit.

The base is stoneware, thrown as a short cylinder with a stepped shoulder and a narrow neck, glazed in a speckled sand that keeps a textured ceramic surface rather than a flat painted one. The shade is tapered and woven, closer to hessian than to a smooth cotton, with a darker binding at the top and bottom edge. Lit, the weave becomes the feature: the light passes through it unevenly and throws a soft grain onto the wall behind, which is a lot of character for a lamp this size.

Where it works: a bedside table, a hallway console, or a side table in a reading corner where a small warm light is enough.
