Kashan Picture Light

A slim rotating bar on a round backplate in a dark bronze that photographs as black, made to light art rather than a room.

Solid brass underneath, finished by hand in a bronze so dark that only a close look finds the warm metal in it. A knurled band crosses the barrel and gives you something to grip when you turn the head, and the head does turn, which is what separates a picture light from a fixed batten. Aimed high it grazes a canvas and shows its texture, aimed low it washes a mirror. The backplate stays small and quiet, so on a dark wall the whole fitting almost disappears and only the light it throws is visible.

Where it works: lighting framed art in a hallway, above a mirror, or on a dark painted wall where a brass fitting would shout. It suits a living room equally well.
