Zal Floor Lamp

A single twisted column, sculpted so the light off the shade runs down the spiral and pools around the foot. Substantial and weighted at the base.

The column is one continuous helix, moulded in an oak effect resin with a pale grain running through it and standing on a square plinth. It is not solid timber, and it is heavier than most floor lamps, which is what keeps it stable on a rug. The shade is a natural linen drum, wide and shallow, sitting level on top of the twist so the two shapes do not compete. Light leaves the top and bottom of the drum, which is what throws a pattern up the wall behind it and down the spiral itself. It is rated for indoor use only.

Where it works: a living room beside a sofa, a dining room corner, or a reading corner where the twist can be read against a plain wall.
