Shushtar Pendant Light

A copper ring with an LED strip set into its underside, hung with a dense fringe of fine copper chains that picks the light up on the way down.

The ring is steel finished in a brushed copper, warm and matt rather than mirror bright, and the light source is built into the lower edge so the diodes themselves are never in view. What you see instead is the fringe: hundreds of fine chains hung from the ring at staggered lengths, each one catching the light and moving slightly in the air of a room. Lit, it reads as a curtain of warm sparks. Unlit, it is a copper cylinder of thread. The ring hangs on three thin suspension wires. The LED is integrated, so this is not a fitting you can re-lamp; the whole point of the design is the fringe, not a bulb you would ever see.

Where it works: over a dining table, in a living room above a low table, or in a bedroom where the fringe hangs clear of head height.
