Kermanshah Table Lamp

A turned wood column in a limed brown finish under a beige linen shade, the traditional English lamp shape done plainly and well.

The column is turned into a long baluster with a wide swell low down and a tight neck under the shade, standing on a round stepped foot. The wood is a mid brown with a chalky limed wash worked into the grain, so the turning reads as ridges of light against darker recesses rather than as a flat painted surface. The shade is linen, tapered rather than straight sided, in a warm beige that picks up the wood instead of fighting it, and the weave lets a little light through the sides while sending most of it down. It stands substantial enough to anchor a chest of drawers, and an in-line switch sits on the flex within easy reach.

Where it works: on a bedroom chest of drawers, on a hallway console, or in a pair on living room side tables.
