The same heavy fluted crystal shade on a half round plate finished in a bronze so dark it photographs as gloss black.

Contrast is what this version trades on. The crystal shade is clear, deeply fluted and cut with facets that break the lamp into bands of light, and it sits on metal that reads black rather than brown. Under the shade the collar picks up a bright reflection, which stops the dark half round plate looking flat. The shade is open at the top so some light escapes upward onto the wall. Solid brass under the finish, with copper visible only where a highlight runs across it, exactly as the supplier describes.

Where it works: at bedside height beside a bed as a pair, or in a bedroom or living room where dark metal suits the ironmongery. It suits a hallway equally well.
