Sirjan Pendant Light

A single squat drum of clear glass with a pale alabaster core glowing inside it, hung on a plain black cable.

Two shades in one: the outer skin is clear glass, barrel shaped and open at the bottom, and inside it sits a rounded piece of natural alabaster that carries the light. Because the stone is translucent and the glass is not diffusing, you get a soft warm centre inside a hard bright rim, and from below the two edges read as separate rings. The alabaster shows faint veining when it is lit and almost none when it is off. A black collar caps the top and the cable is plain black fabric, so nothing competes with the glass.

Where it works: in a row over a kitchen island, singly at bedside height, or grouped above a dining table.

The supplier copy says bronze and the photograph says black. Settle that before this goes live, because the metal is the only colour decision on it.
