Minab Table Lamp

A squat cone of cream cotton string wound over a frame, with the base wrapped to match, so the whole lamp is one continuous woven surface.

The string is wound tight and side by side over an iron frame, which gives a ribbed surface that catches light along every turn and lets thin lines of it through between the threads. Lit, the shade glows warm and throws a fine striped pattern onto the surface around it. The cone flares out wide and stops just above a short wrapped cylinder, so it sits low and reads as one object rather than a shade on a stand. Every piece is wound by hand, so the tension and the colour vary slightly from one to the next.

Where it works: a bedside table, a hallway console, or a side table in a reading corner where the striped light is part of the point.
