Ferdows Pendant Light

A waisted cone of cream cotton string, narrow at the middle and flared at the bottom, wound by hand over a wire frame.

The profile is the interesting part: the shade comes down from the ceiling as a straight sided cone, pulls in to a narrow waist about halfway, then flares out again to a wide open bottom. That shape sends a defined pool of light straight down while the wound string glows all the way up the body. The string is cotton, wound turn against turn so thin lines of light escape between the threads, and every shade is wound by hand, so no two are quite the same.

Where it works: over a dining table or a kitchen island, hung low enough that the flared bottom sits above eye level.

Use an LED lamp, not a filament one. Cotton string sits close to the bulb here and heat is the thing that ages it.
