Sirjan Wall Light

Two textured brass plates folded around a hidden lamp, so light escapes at the edges and washes the wall above and below.

The surface is the product. Both plates are cast with a deep bark texture, all ridges and splits, and finished in brass so the raised parts catch a warm light while the hollows stay dark. The two panels sit slightly apart with the lamp behind them, which means you never see the source: light leaves through the gap between the plates and spills up and down the wall. That makes it an ambient fitting rather than one you read by. Brass left uncoated will deepen with time, which suits a textured surface better than a flat one.

Where it works: along a hallway, in a living room as a pair, or in a bedroom where a soft wash is wanted rather than a lamp.
