Rostam Ceiling Light

A wide, low ellipse of translucent ochre mesh fixed straight to the ceiling, big enough to be the thing you notice in the room.

The shade is a fine textured textile mesh stretched over a powder coated frame, and because the mesh is translucent rather than opaque you can see the ribs of the frame and the outline of the lamp through it. That is deliberate. Lit, the whole surface glows a warm ochre and the frame reads as a faint drawn line inside it; unlit, it holds a soft mustard colour that sits well against white plaster. It fixes flat to the ceiling rather than hanging, so the full width sits high and out of head height.

Where it works: over a dining room table, in a living room, or in a bedroom where a pendant would hang too low.

A decorative bulb will be visible through the mesh, which is either the point or the problem depending on your taste. A plain opal globe is the quieter choice.
