Quchan Pendant Light

A tall linen lantern with softly rounded corners, hung from a plain black cap. It reads as a paper shade with none of the fragility of one.

The linen is loose woven and slightly open, so the weave shows against the light and the wooden ribs behind it read as faint vertical lines down the shade. Lit, the whole volume glows warm and even rather than throwing a beam; unlit, it holds its shape as a pale sculptural cylinder against the wall. A black powder coated cap closes the top and carries the flex. The supplier caps the lamp at a low wattage, so an LED is the only sensible choice.

Where it works: over a dining table, in a living room, or in a bedroom. There is a round version and a matching table and floor lamp in the same range.
