A smoked glass teardrop with a hammered surface and a black holder, sold as a base so you can choose the shade.

The glass is blown into a teardrop, wide at the foot and drawn in at the neck, and hammered so the surface dimples and the reflections break up rather than running in clean lines. Smoked glass at this depth reads almost charcoal in daylight and warms right up when a lamp is lit inside it, which is the reason to take this over the clear version. The holder and collar are black rather than brass, which keeps the whole base cool and quiet against a dark sideboard.

Where it works: a hallway console, a living room sideboard, or a bedside table, with a pale shade to lift it.

Smoked glass swallows light, so pair it with a pale shade unless you want a very dim lamp. Ask us for the right shade width to pair with this base.
