A cordless dome lamp in a soft neutral clay that moves wherever the evening does, with no cable to trail behind it.

The colour is the reason to pick this one: a pale putty clay with a faint green cast that sits quietly next to stone, timber and unbleached linen rather than competing with them. The form is a deep dome over a short tapered body, in painted metal with a completely matt surface, with a single button low on the side. Light spills from under the dome, so it lands as a soft ring on the table and leaves the space above it dark, which is what makes it a candle substitute rather than a lamp you have to think about.

Where it works: on a garden or patio side table beside an outdoor sofa, on a bedside table with no socket near it, or carried out with a tray of drinks.
