Damghan Wall Light

A dark bronze octagon panel held off the wall, with four folded brass corners that catch the lamp and throw it back onto the plaster above and below.

The face is a flat bronze octagon, brushed rather than polished, so it reads almost black until light hits it. The plate is faceted rather than flat: behind each corner the metal is folded out into a polished brass triangle, and those four gaps are the only place the light escapes. The result is a soft wall wash top and bottom with the plate itself staying dark, which is why it works as an object on a wall rather than as a lamp you look at. The bronze is a brass base with a black finish over it, so it keeps a warm undertone instead of going flat grey.

Where it works: a hallway wall, a living room chimney breast, or a bedroom above a headboard where an indirect wash is more useful than a reading light.
