A brushed brass cylinder on a round ceiling plate, with a knuckle behind it so the head tilts and the beam can be pointed where it is needed.

The body is a plain brass tube, brushed rather than mirror polished, so it holds a soft directional grain instead of reflecting the room back. It hangs below a shallow round plate on a short knuckle joint, which is what lets the head swing and aim. The aperture is recessed slightly, so the lamp sits back inside the cylinder and the glare is cut when you stand under it. This is a working light rather than a decorative one, sized for a hallway or a landing where you want a pool of light on a floor or a picture rather than a general glow.

Where it works: a hallway ceiling, a landing, or a home office where a directed pool of light beats an even wash.
