A tall narrow cylinder of coarse natural jute on a slim black stem, weighted by a heavy textured sphere that keeps the whole lamp upright.

The proportions are the point. A tall narrow shade over a thin stem would normally look unstable, so the base is a solid textured sphere with real mass, and the eye reads the lamp as anchored rather than top heavy. The shade is woven jute in its natural colour, coarse enough that the weave shows against the light and warm enough to take the hardness out of a black metal frame. Light goes up and down the cylinder rather than out sideways, so it lifts a corner without flooding the room. A floor switch means you are not reaching up under the shade for it.

Where it works: beside a sofa in a living room, in a reading corner, or in a bedroom where a tall narrow lamp fits a gap a shade on a table would not.
