Siyavash Table Lamp

A dark textured metal ball on a low disc foot, a slim stem, and a coarse hessian shade. Quiet enough to disappear, tall enough to still be noticed.

The base is the whole idea: a matt black sphere with a grain pressed into it, so it catches light like turned wood rather than reading as flat paint. Above it a thin black stem lifts a straight sided cylinder shade in a woven hessian fabric, which softens the light without cooling it and glows a warm oatmeal when lit. Light escapes from the top and bottom of the shade as well as through the weave, so it lifts the wall behind as much as the surface it stands on. An in line switch sits on the cable.

Where it works: on a bedside table, on a home office desk, or on a living room side table. There is a matching floor lamp in the same range if you want the pair.
