Nain Wall Light

Two upright clear cylinders on a burnished brass backplate, each with a band of etching around the middle and a candle lamp standing inside.

The shade is a straight sided tube, open at the top, with a frosted etched band ringing it about a third of the way down. Below the band the tube is clear, so you see the stem and the holder, and above it the lamp is broken up into a soft glow instead of a hard point. The backplate is a shallow round disc in two tones, with a flat bar crossing it that carries the shade. The supplier notes the fitting can be mounted upright, on its side or at an angle, which makes it unusually flexible for a wall light of this shape. The brass is a living finish and will darken with handling.

Where it works: as bedside lights either side of a bed, along a hallway, or beside a dining room mirror where an upright form suits the wall better than a projecting arm.

Take the supplier at their word on the finish. It will not stay as bright as the photograph, and on brass that is normal rather than a fault.
