Taft Wall Light

The glass is a soft squared cylinder with deep vertical ribs, clear rather than frosted, so the lamp inside is visible and the ribs throw fine bands of light and shadow up and down the wall around it. The backplate is a disc of pale travertine with the open pitting the stone is known for, which keeps a small fitting from looking mass produced. Between them a warm brass toned arm holds the shade forward of the wall. Because the lamp is on show, the bulb you choose becomes part of the design rather than something hidden inside a shade.

Where it works: beside a bed as a bedside pair, along a hallway, or either side of a living room chimney breast.
