Two cream cylinder heads on a short ceiling bar, both tilting independently, for lighting a picture wall or a desk rather than a whole room.

This is a small, quiet fitting. A rectangular backplate carries a slim bar with two cylinder heads slung below it, each one able to swivel on its mount so the two beams can be aimed at different things. The cylinders are narrow, which keeps the beam tight, and the whole fitting projects only a short distance from the ceiling. Everything is powder coated in a matt soft cream finish, so against a pale ceiling it reads as a shape rather than as hardware. The lamps sit inside the heads and stay hidden, which is what keeps a spot fitting from looking utilitarian.

Where it works: down a hallway, over a home office desk, or angled at a picture wall in a bedroom.
