A heavy faceted glass cylinder, cut flat down each side so it catches light along every edge, hung on a black cord under a brass cap.

The glass is thick and solid rather than blown thin, cut into flat facets that run the full length of the cylinder. That is what makes it work: light travelling down the lamp inside is picked up by every cut edge, so the whole tube glows along its corners while the flats stay clear. The brass cap at the top is the only metal you see, and the black fabric cord keeps the drop visually quiet so the glass does the talking. The supplier notes the brass fittings are held entirely by the glass, with no holes drilled through it, which is why the cylinder reads as one clean piece.

Where it works: over a dining table, down a stairwell void, or in a double height hallway where the staggered drops can be seen from two floors.
