A polished nickel arm curves up from a round weighted base and back over a white fabric drum shade, so the light hangs above the surface rather than standing on it.

The arched arm is the whole design. A single tube of steel rises from the base, bends through a long curve and comes down again to meet the shade at its top, which leaves the shade suspended clear of whatever is underneath. The polished nickel plating keeps it bright without going as cold as chrome does. The shade is white faux silk on a drum frame, and it diffuses light evenly through the fabric while dropping a clean disc of it onto the table below. A switch sits on the base itself, so there is nothing to feel for along the cable. It has a compact, weighted footprint, which is what keeps the cantilever from tipping it.

Where it works: on a bedside table, on a home office desk, or on a living room side table where a reading light has to sit in close.
