A clear glass teardrop base under a navy fabric drum shade, small enough for a bedside table and plain enough not to date in a year.

The base is clear blown glass, wide and round at the bottom and drawn in to a narrow neck, so the flex and the lamp holder show through it. That is the design rather than an oversight, and it is why the lamp reads light on a crowded bedside table where a solid base would not. The shade is a tapered drum in a navy fabric that goes almost black in low light and reads clearly blue in daylight. It is genuinely small, and the low maximum output means it is a lamp for atmosphere rather than one to read by.

Where it works: a bedside table, a home office desk, or a hallway console where a small lamp is all there is room for.
