Nariman Pendant Light

Twin circles of cut rock crystal set into matt black frames, threaded through one another so the fitting reads differently from every angle.

The stone does the work here. Each ring is faced with panels of rock crystal, cut thin enough to pass light and left with all their natural veining and cloud, so no two panels look the same and the glow is uneven in the way a natural material should be. The frame holds them in a plain band with no visible fixings. Because the light source sits behind the stone rather than in front of it, there is no glare at all and nothing to look at except the material itself. Unlit it reads as a piece of stonework. Lit, the veining comes forward.

Where it works: over a large dining room table, in a stairwell where the rings can be read from more than one level, or in a double height living room.

Two things are missing and both matter at this price: the weight, which decides the ceiling fixing, and whether the light source can ever be replaced.
