The glass is a plain blown sphere with an open mouth at the base, so it surrounds the lamp without ever fully enclosing it. Clear glass gives no diffusion, which means this fitting lives or dies on the bulb you put in it, and a decorative filament lamp is the obvious answer. Above the globe, a short knurled brass collar carries the holder, and the whole thing sits under a plain round brass plate. The supplier offers it as a ceiling fitting or a wall fitting, and the photograph shows the ceiling version, sitting close enough to the plaster to work under a low ceiling.

Where it works: a hallway with a low ceiling, a landing, or a small bedroom where a hanging pendant would be in the way.
