Shiraz Lamp Shade

A taupe cotton shade on an iron frame, tapering in towards the top, sold on its own.

Taupe is the useful neutral: warmer than grey and greyer than beige, so it sits against white walls, timber and stone without pulling any of them one way. The cotton is woven closely enough that the light comes out soft and even rather than showing the bulb through it, and the taupe fabric warms the glow further, which is why this shade makes a room feel cosier than a white one. Underneath it is a rolled iron frame, so it holds its circle rather than going oval in a warm room. The taper stops it looking like a straight tube.

Where it works: on a bedside or bedroom lamp base, or a small hallway lamp, where this shade is in proportion to the base under it.
