This is the size that suits a full height lamp base rather than a bedside one, and the tapered profile changes the light: a wider shade at the base throws a broader, flatter pool across the surface below it and takes the hot edge off a bare bulb. The cloth is a closely woven taupe cotton, a greyed beige that reads warm against white walls and neutral against timber, and it is stretched over a rolled iron frame that keeps the circle true. It leans in gently from bottom to top rather than standing as a straight cylinder, which is what gives a tapered drum its softer outline against a plain wall.
