This is the width most full height table lamp bases are designed around, which is why this size gets reached for most often. A tapered shade throws a broader, flatter pool of light than a straight cylinder, so a lamp wearing this will light a whole console rather than a single book. The cotton is snow white and closely woven, bright enough to keep the light clean and cool, and it hides the bulb rather than glowing around it. The frame is rolled iron, so the shade holds its circle, and it leans in gently from bottom to top, which gives it a slight taper rather than a straight sided look.
