Three curved brass arcs hung one below the other, each carrying a row of round alabaster discs that glow warm along the length of the curve.

The structure is simple and the effect is not. Each arc is a flat brass bar bent into a shallow curve and hung on fine cables, with round discs of alabaster fixed along it at even spacing. Because alabaster is a natural stone it transmits light unevenly, so lit, each disc glows with its own veining showing through, and the row reads as a line of small warm moons rather than a strip of lamps. The three arcs sit at descending widths, which gives the fitting its tiered profile and lets it fill a tall space without ever looking solid.

Where it works: over a long dining room table, in a stairwell where all three tiers can be seen at once, or in a double height living room.
