Jahrom Wall Light

The shade is a straight sided glass cylinder with fine flutes running its whole length, open at the top and clear rather than opal, so the lamp inside is visible from end to end. The flutes are the only decoration and they do the job well: they break the filament into a run of vertical highlights instead of one hard line. The bracket underneath is a squared metal channel that the tube drops into, cantilevered off a plain round wall plate, and the right angles of it are a deliberate contrast to the soft vertical ribs above. It is a tall fitting for its width, so it suits a narrow stretch of wall.

Where it works: as a bedside light beside a bed, along a hallway, or flanking a dining room chimney breast where the height reads well on a narrow wall.

The lamp is half of this fitting. A short round bulb will look wrong in it, so plan on a long tubular filament lamp.
