Astara Wall Light

A round plate of natural alabaster with a small brass button at its centre, sitting flush to the wall with no arm and almost no projection.

Alabaster is a soft translucent stone, and cut into a disc this thin it passes light while keeping its own cloudy white body and its faint grey veining. Each piece is different, because the veining is natural and no two blocks cut the same. The only other element is a small brushed brass disc at the centre, which anchors the stone visually and stops the circle reading as blank. There is no arm, no shade and no visible fixing, so the fitting sits almost flat on the plaster and reads as an object on the wall rather than as a lamp.

Where it works: as bedside lights either side of a bed, along a hallway, or on a landing where a projecting arm would catch shoulders.
