Talesh Wall Light

A polished brass ring standing off the wall with a matt black disc suspended inside it, and the lamp hidden behind so only the wash is visible.

Two circles, one inside the other, and neither of them is a shade. The outer element is a brass band seen edge on, wide enough to catch light along its whole rim. Inside it sits a plain black disc, mounted forward of the wall so light escapes all the way round it and washes the plaster in a halo. Nothing of the lamp is visible from any normal viewing angle, which is the point. The supplier calls the dark element burnished bronze, and it is a bronze finish over brass, but in practice it reads as matt black against the brass ring.

Where it works: a hallway wall, a landing, or a bedroom above a headboard where an indirect halo is more useful than a reading light.
