Clear ribbed glass does not hide anything, which is the point: the vertical ribs cut the lit bulb into a row of bright vertical lines and throw a fan of fine highlights onto the wall behind. Unlit, the glass is almost colourless and the gold base carries the whole lamp. That base is painted gold on steel with a soft satin sheen rather than a mirror polish, so it reads warm next to timber and brass. A cable with an in-line on/off switch comes out of the back, and there is no assembly to do.

Where it works: on a side table in a reading corner, a bedside table, or a hallway shelf where the ribbed glass catches passing light.

Because the glass is clear, the bulb is part of the look. A small clear or opal LED suits it well, since the glass leaves the bulb on show.
