Maragheh Wall Light

A clear fluted glass cylinder on a gold arm, supplied with a cable, an in-line switch and a plug, so it needs a socket rather than an electrician.

Deep vertical flutes run the height of the glass and pull the lamp inside into a series of bright lines, which is what stops a clear shade from looking like a bare bulb on a bracket. The metalwork is painted gold with a soft satin sheen rather than a mirror polish, taken across the round backplate, the cranked arm and the collar that grips the shade. It arrives flat, and the shade screws onto the base once the fitting is on the wall.

Where it works: a bedroom, a hallway or a home office wall. Plug in with an in-line switch, so it suits rented flats and any wall you would rather not chase out.
