Khoy Wall Light

A smoked grey glass cylinder, deeply fluted, hung from a gold arm. Warm metal against cool glass, plugged in rather than hardwired.

The grey tint runs through the glass rather than sitting on the surface, so the lamp inside becomes a soft glow instead of a visible filament, and the flutes stripe that glow into narrow vertical bands. Gold metalwork stops the grey from going cold: the collar, the cranked arm and the round backplate all carry a satin gold that reads warm against a pale wall. The cable drops to an in-line switch and a plug, so it goes up with two screws.

Where it works: a hallway, a landing, or a living room where a softer wall light is wanted rather than a bright one. No wiring, so it suits rented homes.

Tinted glass loses output, so pick an LED at the brighter end if this is the only light on that wall.
