Salmas Table Lamp

A glossy white glass mushroom lamp with a raised swirl running round both the dome and the rounded base beneath it.

The whole thing is glass, blown in two swelling parts, and the mushroom form comes entirely from their proportions: a bulbous base and a wide dome cap that sits straight on top of it with no visible fitting between them. The swirl is moulded into the surface, so it catches highlights on the glossy side and glows as a rippled spiral once the lamp is on. White glass diffuses rather than transmits, which gives a soft even light at a low level. It is a small object, closer to an ornament that lights than to a working lamp, and it plugs into a socket with a switch on the cable.

Where it works: a bedside table, a hallway console, or a living room shelf where a low pool of light is wanted after dark.

This fitting is built for a small LED candle lamp, not a filament bulb. Choose a warm white one so the swirl reads cream rather than clinical.
