Shiraz Ceiling Light

Two drums stacked under one ceiling plate: a wide cream cotton shade over a narrower open weave band that lets light through in a grid of dots.

The upper drum is a plain cream cotton blend with a black trim at both rims, and it does the diffusing, softening everything the lamp throws sideways. The lower band is narrower and open, a woven cane-effect webbing in a honey tone that light passes straight through, so the fitting reads as a bright ring of small points below a solid block of glow. Bound black edges tie the two together and pick up the matt black canopy. It sits flat to the ceiling, which puts it in the awkward middle ground a pendant cannot fill: too much presence for a plain flush plate, too little drop to be in the way.

Where it works: a bedroom, a living room, or a dining room where a low ceiling rules out a hanging shade.

One thing still open: the supplier sells the lower band as Viennese cane and lists it as plastic. We have asked. Until it is answered, the page says cane effect.
