Saqqez Table Lamp

A woven seagrass drum shade on a slim black metal stem and a round weighted base, wider than it is tall.

The shade is grasscloth with the strands running vertically, wound loosely enough that light comes through the sides as a soft speckled glow as well as out of the open top and bottom. Set against it, the stem and base are plain black metal, slim and unfussy, which stops a natural material from reading as rustic and keeps the lamp usable in a plain room. The proportions are wider than they are tall, so the light lands as a broad low pool rather than a narrow one, which suits a side table better than a desk. It is light, so the base does the work of keeping it upright.

Where it works: a living room side table, a bedside table where a soft glow is enough, or a hallway console.

A frosted or opal lamp suits this better than a clear filament one. The shade is open at both ends and a bare filament sits right at eye level on a side table.
