Bukan Wall Light

A half cylinder of woven seagrass mounted flat to the wall, open at the top and the bottom, so light washes up and down and glows softly through the weave itself.

The shade is grasscloth with the strands running vertically and enough space between them that the fitting lights three ways at once: a fan up the wall, a fan down it, and a warm speckled glow straight through the material. That third one is what separates a woven shade from a solid one. The colour is a pale natural straw that reads warmer once it is lit, and it sits well against plaster, lime paint and stone. It has a short projection from the wall, so it stays out of the way in a corridor.

Where it works: a living room in a pair, a bedroom either side of the bed, or a hallway where projection has to stay tight.

Choose a frosted or opal lamp rather than a clear filament one. The shade is open at both ends and a bare filament will be visible from the stairs.
