Tahmineh Wall Light

Two stacked tiers of rippled clear glass tiles, pinned to a brass frame, with the lamps set behind so the wave in each tile catches and bends the light.

Each tile is a thick clear glass rectangle with a wave pressed through it, and the tiles are set side by side in two tiers with small brass pins at every corner. Lit, the wave does the work: the light bends through the thickness of the glass and throws a soft moving pattern rather than a flat wash. Unlit it reads as a block of cut glass on the wall. The brass pins and the backplate are the only metal on show, and they keep the whole thing tight against the wall rather than projecting into a corridor.

Where it works: in a hallway, either side of a living room fireplace, or as a bedroom pair.
