Paveh Wall Light

An antique brass dome shade on a curved swan neck arm, with a knurled adjustable knuckle and its own on off switch on the fitting.

The arm sweeps out and over from a round stepped backplate, and the shade hangs from a knurled knuckle that loosens by hand, so the beam can be pointed at a book rather than at the floor. The shade is a deep dome with a wide mouth, in an antiqued brass plate that carries a darker patina in the recesses and a lighter cream finish inside, which lifts the colour of the light coming out of it. Because there is a switch on the fitting itself, it can be used on a spur or a socket outlet feed without a wall switch, which is what makes it work beside a bed.

Where it works: at bedside height in place of a table lamp, in a reading corner where the beam can be aimed, or along a hallway.

The shade mouth is open, so whatever lamp goes in is visible from below. A warm filament or an opal candle lamp both suit it, a bare cool white one does not.
