Farhad Pendant Light

A long clear glass cone drops to a hand cut faceted ball with the lamp sitting inside it, so the light leaves through dozens of small ground faces at once.

The cone is plain clear glass and does almost nothing optically. It is there to hold the eye and give the fitting height. The work is in the sphere underneath, a solid ball ground into hexagonal and pentagonal faces and polished so that each face reflects a different part of the lamp. That is what puts small hard highlights on a ceiling instead of a single soft pool. The collar between the two parts is bronze, a live finish that darkens over time and darkens faster where hands touch it. The ball lifts off for cleaning.

Where it works: as a bedside drop, in a run over a kitchen island, or singly in a hallway.

Wipe it with a dry cloth only. Cleaners strip a live bronze finish.
