Taft Semi Flush Ceiling Light

A hand shaped ellipse of amber glass with a rippled, uneven surface, hung just below a brushed brass canopy so it sits low without becoming a pendant.

The glass is the product. It is blown into an irregular, squashed ellipse with soft ripples and hollows across the whole surface that catch the light differently from every angle, giving the silhouette a soft, hand-worked texture. The tint is warm amber, so a clear filament lamp behind it reads as candle light rather than as a bare bulb. Because the glass is transparent, everything inside it is on show, which is why the lamp you choose matters as much as the fitting itself. A brushed brass canopy and stem hold it clear of the ceiling by a few centimetres, enough for the top curve of the glass to catch light too.

Where it works: over a small dining room table, in a hallway, or in a bedroom where a low ceiling rules out a drop.
