A ribbed pink glass capsule on a painted gold disc, warmer and softer than the chrome version of the same lamp.

Gold under pink glass does something specific: the base bounces warm light up into the tinted ribs, so the whole lamp reads as one continuous warm object rather than as a cool metal foot holding a coloured shade. The glass is a ribbed cylinder, pressed into fine vertical ribs and open at the top, which means the bulb inside is on show and its light comes out as a row of bright lines rather than a single glare. The base is a low painted gold disc, satin rather than mirrored, with the cable running out of one side and an in-line switch on it.

Where it works: on a bedroom chest of drawers, a hallway console, or a living room side table where its warmth suits brass and timber.

The gold is painted rather than plated, so treat it as a finish to keep dry and wipe gently rather than polish.
