Two metal bands cross the front of the backplate and grip each glass tube at its middle, which is the only fixing on the fitting and gives it the look of something clamped together rather than assembled. The glass is clear and the cut edges are polished round, so nothing catches. Because there is no diffusion at all, the lamps you fit are on show and are the deciding detail. The supplier calls the finish a hand polished antique bronze, though in the photograph the metal reads dark and cool rather than warm.

Where it works: down a hallway, as a bedside pair, or flanking a living room chimney breast.
