Anvari Chandelier

A long brass cage ringed with heavy clear crystal prisms, with the lamps set inside so every prism is lit edge on and throws its own line of light.

Each prism is a thick rectangle of crystal glass cut with five faces, stood upright and clamped top and bottom into the brass frame, which is what gives the whole fitting its regular vertical rhythm. The supplier states the mounts are stainless steel finished in burnished brass rather than solid brass, chosen for strength at this length. Lit, the five cut faces on each prism split the light and cast hard bright edges rather than the soft halo a frosted shade would give. It is a fitting for a long table, not a small one.

Where it works: the length of a dining table, or over a long kitchen island in a dining room.
